Samsung Electronics, the Korean company responsible for Samsung’s remarkable rage of mobile telephones truly are a global giant of industry. If one were to rank by sales, Samsung are the world’s largest technology company, beating such luminaries as Sony and Microsoft into this esteemed position.
One of the major reasons why the company has managed to get into this position is its consistent development of top mobile phones. When most people think of Samsung their first thought is mobile phone, which just goes to show their status in the market.
Samsung first moved into the world of mobile phones in 1983, making them one of the first ever companies to move into cellular phone technology and managed to release their first ever car phone three years later. Unfortunately for them the phone was not a success but it gave them something to work on and after years of research their first ever mobile phone, the SH-100 was released in 1988.
Since then they have experienced some low points but have been remarkably consistent as one of the world’s most popular mobile phone manufacturers. High points include it’ move into the global market in 1996, quite remarkable really that it is only in the last 15 years that the company have been able to build their remarkable global brand.
Nowadays Samsung are very much at the top of their game, their mobile phone sales for the year 2009 reached a remarkable 235 million worldwide. Their sales the next year were also fantastic with their third quarter sales giving them a share of the global market worth 22% with only Nokia coming in ahead. Samsung easily beat such companies as Sony Ericsson, Apple and LG though showing that their transition from novices in the telecommunications market to the very top has been impressive.
Samsung’s sales in 2010 were almost completely down to one phone as well, and that phone is the Samsung Galaxy S. The phone is Samsung’s flagship, high end handset and performed remarkably, winning countless awards and racking up huge sales.
